Important disclaimers for installing deep cycle batteries, including AGM and lithium
Mixing Batteries
Do not install batteries with different functionality. "Smart" batteries should not be installed with any other type. This causes:
- Miscommunication between BMS components
- Improper charging
- Voided warranty
Recommendation: Install the same batteries in a single bank.
Mixing Old and New Batteries
Do not install new batteries with old ones. Older batteries may have reduced capacity and internal resistance, which can cause:
- Uneven charging/discharging
- Reduced overall battery life
- Potential overheating or failure
Recommendation: Replace all batteries in a bank at the same time.
Mixing Battery Sizes or Chemistries
Never combine batteries of different amp-hour ratings or chemistries (e.g., AGM with lithium). This can lead to:
- Imbalanced charging cycles
- Inaccurate state-of-charge readings
- Voided warranty coverage
