Technical Bulletin 1008 IC Relay Behavior

Problem Description:

The transfer relays that allow AC power to pass through on the IC-2000 and IC-3000 are powered from DC voltage of the battery, which means that passthrough will not function properly when DC power is not present. If AC power is ever connected before DC power the relays may get stuck.

Additionally, if DC power is removed after AC power has been successfully passed through from the input to the output, then the IC will continue to provide DC power.

Solution:

To ensure that passthrough works properly, DC power must always be present first before AC power is connected. If this order is ever reversed accidentally, then both AC power and DC power must be removed from the IC and DC power should be re-connected first, then AC power.

 

 

After DC power has been connected first, and the passthrough relays have successfully clicked over, DC power can be optionally removed, and the IC will continue provide DC power. In this scenario, when the charger is enabled, the IC will provide up to the maximum DC charge current, which is 100A for the IC-2000 and 125A for the IC3000. If the charger is disabled, the IC will provide up to 8.5A before limiting output current.

 

When designing systems with the Go Power! inverter chargers, it is recommended that a separate disconnect is used for the DC loads. This will allow the loads to be disconnected while the inverter charger is still connected so it can keep the batteries fully charged using AC shore power for storage.
